Competition for Comprehension

Today President Obama gave a speech in Green Bay to promote his plans for government intervention in the health care industry. The President’s speech writers apparently sought to blur the distinction between the President’s plan to nationalize health care and the Republicans unusually cogent call for more competition by incorporating the word ‘competition’ into the President’s speech. Undoubtedly this is all of the evidence that the news media wil need to reprot that the President’s plan increases competition.

Despite doing nothing to increase competition at the consumer level, I predict that tomorrow’s implicit and explicit assumptions by the news media will include that the President’s plan equals and therefor negates the Republicans’ plan.

Going forward the news media template will be “why are the Republicans calling for more competition when the President’s plan already addresses it?”
